Career Path: Digital Marketing Account Manager, Huzzah! Digital
Location: UK

Describe your current role and responsibilities.

I'm responsible for digital marketing strategies and delivery across a variety of clients predominantly in recruitment, technology, fashion and lifestyle brands. My day-to-day basis is incredibly varied and ranges from: copy-writing, content strategy and writing, social media strategy, paid media, PR, brand strategy and SEO.

Why did you decide to study Fashion Communication at Northumbria?

Because I wanted to experience a breadth of creative media within an industry that I was passionate about - I've since realised that the latter part of that was a bit of a luxury! However I love what I do and there's a story to be told in every brand or business.

What are the most useful skills that Fashion Communication taught you?

How to turn a creative, fringe concept into a project plan with tangible outcomes. Learning to utilise creativity in a commercial way was crucial to be able to do my job.

Did you get any work experience / internships while studying?

No, but I did some freelance writing and an internship as soon as I graduated.

What is the one piece of advice you would give this year’s graduates?

As counterproductive as this may seem, I don't feel like you need to crowbar yourself into the fashion industry. The skills you'll learn in a fashion setting can be applied to nearly every other industry. Just enjoy being creative and owning your projects from start to finish - try not to get too caught up in lower-level delivery roles because you'll lose that strategic independence you'll have worked hard to gain at university. If you can't avoid these types of roles, make sure you have an alternative project as an outlet for all that creativity - it's important to remember this as you'll need it later to stand out from the crowd.

Describe Fashion Communication in three words:

Creative, varied and fun.
