Describe your current role and responsibilitiesRobyn Wynn

Millican is an independent travel bag company, with sustainable business and meaningful travel at the core of its ethos. My main responsibility is to manage our social platforms, put together content on our blog and emails, and build and maintain relationships with influencers, content creators and ambassadors. As well as this, I am very much involved in the creative strategy and the development of the brand and offices’ responsible living mission.

Why did you decide to study Fashion Communication at Northumbria?

With an interest in fashion, but knowing design wasn't the direction for me, I explored other fashion courses that were available. I was impressed with Northumbria's varied syllabus, so I could explore a range of sectors to find what I felt right in. Also, the city is very vibrant and friendly for students.

What are the most useful skills that Fashion Communication taught you?

Confidence in myself. I wasn't very confident about my abilities - both creative and written. But the support from the tutors who suggested to follow your path really helped me find what was right for me. This will then make you better at self-management, networking and developing new skills, which is are important in this industry.

Did you get any work experience / internships while studying?

Yes. I worked for a local fashion directory writing content and helping in photo shoots. I also interned for a small start-up company to help develop their social platforms. I also had the opportunity to work at Fashion Week!

What is the one piece of advice you would give this year’s graduates?

Be open. Explore new locations, businesses, brands and responsibilities. The course gives you so many tangible skills and you'll see that you can succeed in a lot of different roles.

Describe Fashion Communication in three words:

Diverse, philosophical and social.
