Dr Melanie Hope

Mel Mitchell 255 Melanie is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Psychology and iscurrently Programme Leader for the BSc. Psychology. She teaches atundergraduate level on the Psychology of Intimacy and Abnormal Psychology andat undergraduate and postgraduate level in Counselling Psychology.

Melanie's main research interest lies in assessment of personality and clinical pathology and the validity of self-report measures of such as predictors of personal, social and occupational outcomes.  Particular areas of interest include the constructs of mindfulness, emotional intelligence and hope and the assessment of clinical models of disordered personality.

She has received research grants for studies on the contribution of emotional intelligence and the trait of neuroticism as moderators of personal well-being and academic performance and is currently working on research associated with the psychometric measurement of mindfulness. Previous research grants have included work relating to emotional intelligence and intelligence and personality predictors of interpersonal trust and awards for teaching and learning.

Melanie is an experienced consultant and has conducted evaluation studies on cognitive behavioural interventions and volunteer befriending programmes.   Melanie has developed bespoke assessment and appraisal programmes relating to employee stress management, performance appraisal, and recruitment and selection across a range of organizations including the Tyne & Wear Transport Corporation, City Centre Training, Nestle, the Civil Service, Dickinson Dees and Northumbria Emergency Services.
