Dr Pushkar Jha

Associate Professor

Department: Newcastle Business School

Pushkar is the Faculty Director of Post Graduate Research at Faculty of Business & Law. He is also the Northumbria PI/ University Lead for a UKRI- OfS funded project. This brings together five universities in the North-East of England to widen access, and promote outcomes for prospective and current students and staff of colour in postgraduate education. 

Pushkar has carried out crucial prior roles such as the director of learning and teaching, research and innovation champion and subject group leader. Over years he has led the development and execution of several successful initiatives directed at research and teaching capability enhancements. Pushkar has also led on redesign of UG and PG teaching programmes in the past.

His research spans areas of strategic learning, innovation, sustainable development, employee ownership and management of projects. With a PhD from Cass Business School in 2007, he has since published in Research Policy, R&D Management, Academy of Management Perspectives, World Development Perspectives, European Management Review, European Business Review and in International Journal of Project Management, among others. In August 2013, his co-authored paper in the Academy of Management Perspectives was recognized at one of the highest platforms in the field, winning the best published paper award at the 2013 annual meeting of the Academy of Management. He has also received the CMI award for the 2nd best paper of five winning articles, conferred in 2014. CMI is the only chartered professional body in the UK that promotes standards in management and leadership excellence.

His research with department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) and for John Lewis Partnerships, has been widely recognized as the drivers behind UK national government policy to promote employee owned businesses. His portfolio of prior business engagement and policy influencing research includes studies for the International Chambers of Commerce and EMI. Pushkar remains keen to expand his engagement with sustainability initiatives and research that can inform and orient policy in practice in this direction. He has coordinated, designed and delivered project studies for initiatives of the World Bank and the UNFPA in the past and continues to deploy this domain in informing his research work. With five doctoral completions, four as principal supervisor, he is actively seeking suitable candidates on projects that bring together innovation, strategy and sustainable development.
