About IC3

The International Centre for Connected Construction (IC3) is a centre of excellence for digital construction fostering world leading research and innovation in collaboration with industry and the public sector, championing the use of digital technologies and connected construction to drive productivity, improve safety and procure for value across the entire building and infrastructure life cycle. 

The North East has a vibrant digital construction cluster, globally renowned for their expertise; the cluster includes trailblazing companies led by Northumbria University. IC3 is accelerating this regional capability by creating a flagship that assembles over 40 partners from across the construction industry, digital sector, academia and regional government. IC3 aims to address the global challenges across the construction sector to create more effective, safer, healthier and more sustainable buildings and infrastructure.

At its core, IC3 champions digital transformation across the entire construction life cycle to catalyse economic growth. IC3 is supported by a number of workstreams, including:

  • Collaborative research and development
  • Open data and innovation platform
  • Programme of innovation in action demonstrator projects
  • Education and skills blueprints
  • Regional business growth accelerator
  • Globalisation programme

IC3 is based in North East England and offers activities promoting engagement, education and collaboration in digital and connected construction that is having global impact.
