An open day gives you the chance to experience Northumbria, visit our campus and get any questions you have answered before making your final decision to apply to study with us. Northumbria University’s Open Days offer a lot to see and do. With all the options available, it’s possible to miss out on important information if you get caught up in everything that’s going on. Here are our tips for a comprehensive Open Day checklist.

  • Do Your Research: Figure out what you want to find out on the open day and which tours, talks or activities you want to attend. It’s also always best to plan any travel with plenty of notice, both to save money, and to ensure you know exactly where you’re going.
  • Subject Talks and Facility Tours: The best way to find out if a course is right for you is to attend a subject talk and tour the facilities. This will give you an opportunity to ask lots of questions about your chosen subject and what your learning experience will be like day to day. Take a virtual tour beforehand to see what’s on offer.
  • Campus Tours: Having a university rep show you around the campus is a great way to not only get your bearings, but also to ask current students questions about what it’s really like to live and learn at Northumbria University.
  • Financial Support and Wellbeing: Aside from the more course-specific presentations there will also be ‘general information’ talks available covering everything from accommodation to finance and support services. Make sure to plan in time for these as they’ll help you gain a wider understanding of what the university can offer you beyond the educational benefits. Visit our student support page for more information.
  • Student Residences and Accommodation: Northumbria University offers tours of our accommodation options as part of our Open Days and would highly recommend that add one to your itinerary. Members of the accommodation team will also be on-hand in the Main Exhibition to tell you more about our options but it’s always best to see first-hand.
  • Clubs and Societies: An Open Day is a great opportunity to learn what extra-curricular activities you’d like to get involved with. Whether you’re into sports, gaming or politics there’s a society (or societies) for you. Want to find out more? Our SU societies page showcases all the available options.
  • Explore the Area: If you’ll be living away from home, it’s crucial that you spend some time taking in the city and surrounding areas. While you’ll be spending plenty of time on campus, a lot of your university experience will be spent enjoying everything Newcastle has to offer. Looking for a preview? Check out our virtual platform, NU World.
