Remembering Professor Keith Shaw

25th October 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce that Professor Keith Shaw passed away on Friday 18 October.

In line with Keith's wishes we wanted to take this opportunity to let colleagues, friends and partners know this sad news.

Having joined the university in 1983, Keith was a distinguished researcher in urban regeneration, local and regional governance, the voluntary and community sector and the politics of borders and borderlands.

Keith was well-known and well-respected for his passion for, and commitment to the region. Through his research and in his own time, he worked with local and regional government bodies, voluntary organisations and community groups to improve public policy, the economy and people’s lives in the North East.

Keith was a devoted and proud family man, and will be greatly missed by his wife, sons, and grandson. Keith’s love of local cricket and Newcastle United were also sources of both joy, and often frustration! Keith will be remembered by colleagues and students for his unique sense of humour, intellect and warm generosity of time and spirit.

He will be very sadly missed by those to whom he was a mentor, teacher, colleague, and friend.
