What will I learn on this module?
This module aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to explore innovation, new venturing and enterprise creation through the lens of entrepreneurial leadership. You will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate your skills in innovation and entrepreneurial leadership. You will cover 6 topics;

The module will support you in the development of your entrepreneurial effectiveness through the lens of entrepreneurial leadership. Consequently, you will learn about the nature of creativity and its role in innovation and enterprise, and how to use it to support you in developing strategies to identify the driving force of change, idea generation and envisioning the future.
You will develop an awareness of collaborative behaviours and how to build professional networks. You will also be introduced to the theoretical underpinnings of team dynamics and entrepreneurial leadership while also having the opportunity to put the theory into practice by linking the module and its assessment to the workplace and associated experiences.
On completion of this module, you be able to use knowledge of enterprise development models to generate new solutions related of entrepreneurship, venture creation and leadership and understand how it is informed by theory and research.
How will I learn on this module?
In this module you are empowered as partners in the learning process, taking responsibility for your own learning. The self-directed aspects of this module are supported by guidance at the module level, provided via the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). There will be opportunity for you to engage with your module tutor and fellow students by means of a tutor-supported module discussion board, and where appropriate, via Blackboard Collaborate.
Module information ensures that you have a clear understanding of what is required at the outset of the module. A theoretical overview of entrepreneurial leadership provides the basis for the learning materials in this module.
Engaging with the materials (including PowerPoint, audio and video formats), undertaking interactive tasks, and following up directed reading (and supported by an electronic reading list and other library-based e-resources), will provide a framework for informing and justifying your decisions in relation to your own study.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
You will be an autonomous, self-motivated learner within a supportive distance learning environment.
The module tutor provides generic module guidance in various formats via the VLE. This includes an introductory video from the module tutor as well as a Teaching and Learning Plan as a guide to aspects of the module, and an evolving ‘frequently asked questions’ section of the module site. The module tutor provides regular updates via the VLE throughout the process of completing this module. Learning materials are provided via the VLE in relation to the different aspects of the module topics, using a variety of written, audio and video methods. Interaction with these modules, as well as directed and independent reading, will develop your understanding of entrepreneurial leadership which you can then apply to your individual study.
The university library provides additional support in terms of research skills and referencing, as well as help in identifying literature in relation to your assessment. An e-library reading list and e-resources will also be provided by the Library and where appropriate, directed via the VLE.
What will I be expected to read on this module?
All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. Online reading lists (provided after enrolment) give you access to your reading material for your modules. The Library works in partnership with your module tutors to ensure you have access to the material that you need.
What will I be expected to achieve?
Knowledge & Understanding:
MLO1: Identify and critically articulate future scenarios relevant to opportunities for innovation and venture creation.
MLO2: Understand and critically assess the role of design, innovation and creativity in new business creation to achieve sustainable solutions.
Intellectual / Professional skills & abilities:
MLO3: Demonstrate and evidence the key skills and attributes for entrepreneurial effectiveness, including collaboration and entrepreneurial leadership.
Personal Values Attributes (Global / Cultural awareness, Ethics, Curiosity) (PVA):
MLO4: Demonstrate and critically assess an ethical and culturally aware approach to responsible business.
How will I be assessed?
Formative assessment: Engaging with tasks in the learning materials will provide formative feedback in terms of general understanding of entrepreneurial leadership. The module tutor provides regular updates and formative feedback online, via the VLE, throughout the process of completing this module, with opportunity for interaction with fellow students regarding formative assessment through the tutor-supported module discussion board.
Summative assessment: There is one component of summative assessment.
1. Accounting for 100% of the overall mark, this assignment requires you to write an essay to critically discuss, with reference to pertinent literature and relevant concepts. The word length of this assessment is 3,000 words.
The assessment address MLO1, MLO2, MLO3 and MLO4.

Module abstract
In a fast changing and highly competitive world all organisations need creative, enterprising and entrepreneurial people. Understanding how to navigate this highly complex environment and see the opportunities for innovation and new ventures it provides is a key skill in an increasingly competitive graduate labour market.
This module provides a research-rich environment for you to understand the theoretical underpinnings of creativity, innovation and new venture leadership and allows you to apply this knowledge to a practical venture creation.
To enable you to navigate this and future competitive scenarios the module supports your understanding of collaboration, team dynamics and entrepreneurial leadership, through exploration of a broad range of theories.
