What will I learn on this module?
You will continue to develop and explore your knowledge and intellectual understanding of the creative process underpinning Graphic Design at an advanced level of study. The module fosters a deep understanding of the cognitive processes and visual problem solving required within the field of Graphic Design. This will be accomplished by your selection from a range of intellectually stimulating and suitably complex professional “live briefs” – projects set by industry partners, professional design educational bodies, or related organisations.
How will I learn on this module?
Your module assignment(s) will provide creative opportunities for individual and/or pair/group projects through “live briefs” written by industry partners, professional design educational bodies, or related organisations.
You will learn through a blend of contextualised lectures, demonstrations, practical workshops, small-group critiques and one-to-one tutorials. Tutor-led sessions will enable students to present their creative ideas in a challenging and intellectually stimulating environment allowing for ideation, presentation, dialogue, and reflection, leading to further iterative development and refinement of the final project. This tried-and-tested approach to student learning mirrors standard industry practice delivering the optimum environment for developing meaningful and appropriate student outcomes.
Technical support staff will be available to provide on-going support throughout the Module, as will departmental and faculty technical resources needed for your project outcome.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
You will be supported academically primarily through a regular series of group and individual critique sessions with clear milestones and presentation points made explicit during the briefing at the beginning of the Module.
Outside of the scheduled critique sessions running throughout the module, you have access to the Lynda.com training/skills portal and Blackboard and can also contact staff personally or by email for additional support if required.
What will I be expected to read on this module?
All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. Online reading lists (provided after enrolment) give you access to your reading material for your modules. The Library works in partnership with your module tutors to ensure you have access to the material that you need.
What will I be expected to achieve?

Show you can effectively present creative and complex design solutions to professional standards as evidenced through your development work and design solutions. 3
TECHNICAL ABILITY - Intellectual/Professional Skills & Abilities
Evidence ability to use advanced technical and craft skills in the creation and production of design solutions to high standards, using appropriate application and attention to detail. 3.
STUDENTSHIP - Personal Value Attributes
Demonstrate you can Independently and critically apply decision-making, evaluate your own progress as evidenced through your development work and design solutions. 3.
How will I be assessed?
One or more projects will be carried out and grades given on the submission of all projects. At the end of the module, grades will be collated to provide a final mark for the module, which is 100%.
The assessment and feedback strategy is;
a. Formative Assessment?
You will receive verbal formative feedback both individually and in groups throughout the module. This feedback will facilitate development of your two assignments. This feedback will allow you to reflect upon your own work and act upon feedback prior to final submission.
b. Summative assessment
Submission is by portfolio. The project brief/s driving the module will identify the assessment criteria and submission requirements (deliverables) appropriate to the topic of the project. This will enable you to demonstrate the process and technical skills developed throughout the module. A single grade will then be aligned to the submission based upon the deliverables.
c. Feedback strategy?Feedback will be delivered verbally at the point of each seminar, where discussion will clarify future direction. Upon receiving summative assessment you will receive a grade reflecting achievement against the learning outcomes of the module, along with feedback stating strengths and areas for improvement.
This module is exempt from the Anonymous Marking Policy. The nature of working closely and directly with the students in workshops makes anonymity unfeasible.

Module abstract
This module is an opportunity to do a project directed by your specific areas of interest. You will build upon the knowledge and skills gained through Years 1 and 2 of the course, showcasing your advanced skills and knowledge in this first module of your final year.
You will be offered a series of projects by design studios, professional design educational bodies, or related organisations. These projects can give you the opportunity to engage with external partners, enter competitions and potentially gain professional recognition for your work.
More importantly, the module gives you the opportunity to start considering the kinds of projects you want to showcase in your final portfolio, developing work which is directed towards your specific areas of interest within Graphic Design.
