Applied Work Psychology

The Applied Work Psychology group has expertise in organisational consultancy, utilising the best available evidence to design and evaluate workplace interventions on employment interviews, bullying and career development.

The group is particularly focused on research in careers (with emphasis on women’s career development), employability, workplace bullying and factors which support employee wellbeing. The Applied Work Psychology team consists of experienced academics and practitioners who work at the intersection between theoretical work and practical applications, offering evidence-based expertise to design, deliver and evaluate bespoke workplace solutions. 

 

Recent projects include: 

  • Research into barriers and facilitators to career progression in women in policing 
  • Design and evaluation of an intervention to reduce negative behaviours and enhance feedback in surgical training 
  • Design of a framework for collaborative leadership in health and social care and delivery of a development centre for employee development  
  • Review of evidence around equality, diversity and inclusion applied to recruitment and selection practices 
  • Exploration of trainee anaesthetists’ experiences of workplace bullying 
  • International collaboration and scale validation on motives for employee silence 
  • Supervision of trainee occupational psychologists on the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Qualification in Occupational Psychology
