Accreditation and Recognition

Where it is available, we seek Professional and Statutory Regulatory Body accreditation for our programmes. Our successes highlight our commitment to maximising your employability and supporting your ongoing career development across all of our programmes.

We have been successfully evaluated by the Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Biomedical Science, Health & Care Professions Council, Association for Nutrition, Institute of Food Science and Technology and the Forensic Science Society.

In general these accreditations confirm:

• that you are taught by an excellent team of scientists
• that we value employer input in the development of our programmes.

As a graduate of a professionally accredited course you will be recognised for:

• your intellect, professionalism and code of ethics
• your well-developed skills and competencies that make you an excellent candidate for employment as a practicing scientist
• your investment in the development of your communication skills.

RSC accredit our MChem/BSc Chemistry programmes. Successful graduates (first- or second-class honours degrees) may become Associate Members of the Society. When combined with further professional requirements in employment, your degree could allow you to achieve the award of Chartered Chemist (CChem) from the RSC.

Biomedical Science programmes available in the UK may or may not be accredited but the distinction is a very important one. Biomedical scientist is a protected title, only those registered with HCPC can legally use it and serve in the NHS pathology service in this role. If this is the career for you, you follow an IBMS course like ours and then enter the NHS as a trainee. Trainees must then complete the IBMS Certificate of Competence whilst serving in the NHS.

We can fast-track your development! When placements in an approved NHS training laboratory are available, you may transfer to our BSc Biomedical Science programme. The Certificate of Competence is then integrated in your work and you can register with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist directly on graduation.

BSc Food Science & Nutrition is accredited by the Association for Nutrition who hold the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists. On graduation you could register as an Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) and eventually as you progress in your career as a Registered Nutritionist. AfN are actively seeking to protect the title of Nutritionist to “distinguish nutrition practitioners who meet rigorously applied training, competence and professional practice criteria”. In the future graduating from an accredited degree like ours will be critical for the development of your career as a Nutritionist.
