IMPACT HEADLINES:
Vytech, a local supply chain solution SME for the automotive sector, have recently benefited from utilising our “Digital Supply Chain Testbed” for their supply chain with annual £14k saving only in their purchase order process. This was also in addition to better working condition for the procurement team and happier employees.
Challenge:
Insufficient reaction to the seasonality of the demand forecasting affecting the supply with potential over stocking or shortages in the warehouse.
Opportunity:
Utilising our Testbed with the newly developed and more accurate demand forecasting and supply management algorithm providing their real time data for one month as the pilot.
Result:
They will have saved hundreds of hours annually in the procurement department with the value of £14k saving financially only to spend less hours for the order processing in the procurement department. This is significant saving for the business in the longer term.
As part of their wider digital transformation strategy project and through a local research partnership with our Centre, a local SME has introduced a new structured and automated “Return” process to make it more streamline and efficient enabling more effective digital transformation across this process and the entire organisation.
Challenge:
There has been no structured return workflow or traceability once goods left customer premisses. Relying on manual communication with the potential human error with no standard format of recording or authorising returns, customer service and the logistics team lost track on the return status due to lack of visibility.
Opportunity:
Working with the CDSCE through a research project, an automated Return workflow was built into the internal system for this SME for logging, tracking and approving returns.
Result:
With estimated 300 hours per year saving in this process and with full roll out to 15 major customers of this SME, the estimated annual benefit was calculated as £12K, which will be significant economically in the longer term.
In another project as part of their digital transformation strategy development and through a local research partnership, a local SME has started a partnership with our CDSCE. They streamlined their supplier communication process enabling their digital transformation across their upstream supply chain.
Challenge:
Due to the multiple stakeholders’ involvement with multiple e-mail communications across different parties with the major suppliers for processing the orders, high level of ambiguity in the reporting, increased admin workload with the high degree of human error caused an increased level of unnecessary and non-value adding over-processing activities led to increased in more admin and senior leadership time spending on these non-value adding activities.
Opportunity:
The structured method of supplier engagement and communication through better use of digitalisation was developed and demonstrated for two major suppliers of the SME with more significant order transactions.
Result:
The communication process improvements demonstrate the significant operational and financial value of structured supplier engagement. Key benefits include substantial reductions in staff time, elimination of redundant administrative processes, and improved accuracy in reporting and delivery coordination. This has resulted in £8k annual saving to the procurement process. Scaling this up to the broader adoption across 20% of active suppliers of this SME, the estimated annual benefits will be £520k cost saving for this SME that is a very significant figure.
