Career Path: Business owner of a large/medium scale steel fabrication
Location: Bridgnorth, UK

After graduation in 1993 with HND business & Finance . I Took out a small business loan to set up premises and equipment. Started with a small unit and grew to larger premises in 2000. Retired in 2022 after doing a job the I thoroughly enjoyed. I miss it very much.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

I had the vision and working skills of a steel fabricator but wanted the necessary business skills to run the workshop. HND Business and Finance was just enough to learn the fundamentals. I didn’t look back, although the business took about four years or so to get started from Scratch

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

I had the time of my life at Northumbria university

What was the best thing about your course?

Economics Marketing accountancy

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

It gave me the necessary skills to market and advertise.
Run the book keeping and accounts

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Much of all of the them from economics. Accountancy and Marketing

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Just about everything. Best time of my life

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

I would do it all again and wouldn’t even change the bad things like lack of money. It inspired me to do the best with what I’d got.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Best time ever
