Before I was enrolled in the Part-time undergraduate degree program, I graduated with a Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering with two years plus working experience. After graduating in July 2015, I started my career with DIAGEO as a Team Administrator under the International Supply Centre Singapore (currently defunct as the operations shifted to China). In summary, I managed the office with our third-party facilities contractor and improvement projects, alcoholic beverages for testing, procurement, and logistical activities for the laboratory which was built within the office area. During the three years in the role, I had the opportunity to pick up other skill sets & experiences related to internal auditing and compliance. Due to the restructuring, my role was made redundant in Sep 2018 which made me think back if I had made use of the knowledge of what I had attained in the degree program which prompted me to look for the next role as a Logistics Specialist.

I started my role as a Logistics Specialist with EOS Singapore Pte. Ltd., headquartered in Germany. The company specialised in industrial 3D printing technology. First two years in the role, I had the opportunity to start up my first warehouse project with third-party logistics and undergo training at Germany headquarters for cross-functional & SAP training. From the third till the final year before I left EOS, managed the termination of warehouse leasing based on the cost trajectory as pitched for cost saving. After which was a step up to a supervisory role as the Logistics & OP Supervisor which included the Order Processing team and my original responsibilities, and also transit into supporting consultation for the Asia Pacific region's sales team in cross-trade matters and business process compliance.

What are you doing now?

I started my current role with SP Group as an Assistant Manager (Supply Chain Management) in Jan 2023 managing warehouse operations right after I left EOS Singapore to seek other areas of growth. We work closely with the planners to ensure strategic spare parts do not go out of stock. The first six months were rather challenging as it was fast-paced and the urgency to familiarise myself with the business processes, work instructions, Warehouse Management Systems, Warehouse projects, and first-level troubleshooting to investigate systems/hardware errors for end users. It is something different as our scope in a nutshell is to ensure our local engineers who manage Singapore's power grid maintenance & projects get their spare parts within the expected time frame.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

The time frame & project-based degree led me to decide to study with Northumbria.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

It was a mixture. There are lectures & team projects mainly. The only subject that most students from my batch feedback on was the lecturer who taught Culture and Organisations (HR0372) who did not take students' feedback constructively & insisted we follow her way to do the assignments.

How connected was your course with industry?

During my course study, I was working as a Supply Assistant managing finished lubes import with an Oil and gas MNC. Unfortunately, we do not have guest lectures at the time.
