Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art

Our partnership with BALTIC has been in existence for several years with the renewed partnership period spanning from 2022 to 2025.

Through the BxNU Institute, our partnership aims to evolve our ambition to achieve artistic and curatorial excellence, pedagogic sustainability and transformation, communities of people and practice, progressive social change and future thinking. There is a renewed focus and purpose for the partnership and its role in helping Northumbria staff, students and stakeholders address the key challenges of our time from place making and post-covid cultural recovery, to economic levelling up and environmental change.

The partnership develops new academic offers, creates applied postgraduate training programmes, contributes to the cultural sector, evidences the value and impact of contemporary art and supports research bidding and collaboration.

BALTIC academic lead: Julie Crawshaw, Associate Professor of Art, julie.crawshaw@northumbria.ac.uk
