Dr Lucy Currie

Assistant Professor

Department: Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing

HLS_Northumbria -University -Staff _Lucy -CurrieI started my career in Education as Secondary School Teacher specialising in Geography and Literature in English. After 14 years of various teaching and leadership roles in Zimbabwe and Botswana I moved to the UK where I completed a Masters Qualification and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCTLHE) with the Open University.

After 4 years running the BA(Hons) Special Education Studies degree for Essex University in collaboration with South East Essex College in Southend –on –Sea I joined Northumbria University in October 2007. Here I embraced the challenge of accredited work based learning which culminated in a professional doctoral study into Early Years Practitioners’ conceptions of accredited work based learning.

I am currently Programme Lead for the Education route of the Professional Practice Awards and the MA SEN and Inclusion.
