Dr David McGuinness

Assistant Professor

Department: Architecture and Built Environment

I am currently the Programme Leader for the BA Real Estate Programme at Northumbria.  Over the past 15 years I have worked in a number of research and teaching roles at Northumbria, initially at the Centre for Regional Economic Development (CRED) and then the Sustainable Cities Research Institute (SCRI) before finding my present home in the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment.  I contribute to teaching on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Faculty relating to urban regeneration, planning, sustainable development and research methods.  In terms of research and consultancy I have extensive experience of undertaking applied research across a range of policy areas, including, planning, housing, urban regeneration, economic development and urban sustainability. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and an External Examiner at Sheffield Hallam University.

David McGuinness

My main research interests are urban governance, sub-national and strategic planning, urban regeneration, and wider issues relating to sustainable urban development. I have researched and published in all of these areas over the past decade.
