Dr James Street

Senior Lecturer

Department: Humanities

ADSS Jamesstreet Facultystaff 255I graduated with BA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Sheffield where my research interests were in the (complex) relationship between language and social disadvantage. Following my BA graduation I gained a Trinity (Cambridge) Cert. TESOL and spent the next seven years teaching as an ESOL/EFL tutor at a variety of institutions in Britain, Europe and the Far East. In 2004 I was awarded an MA (with distinction) in Applied Linguistics, again from the University of Sheffield.  It was during this period that I began the first of a number of collaborations with Ewa Dąbrowska investigating individual variation in language attainment. In 2006 I won an AHRC PhD studentship to continue research into individual differences, which I completed within three years at the University of Sheffield’s School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics.
