Dr John Temesi

Assistant Professor

Department: Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation

John began his sport and exercise science journey at the University of British Columbia, Canada (BHKin) and then continued at the University of Sydney, Australia (MApplSci) where he investigated the effect of carbohydrate ingestion on sport performance in athletes with spinal cord injury. He then completed a PhD at Université Jean Monnet, France (PhD) by investigating the effects of sport and exercise on neuromuscular function, especially during extreme efforts. Most recently, John was a post-doctoral fellow and adjunct assistant professor at University of Calgary, Canada where he continued to investgate the effects of exercise on neuromusular function in healthy and clinical populations. John joined Northumbria University as an assistant professor in exercise and sport science in September 2018. His main research interests are in the areas of neuromechanics, exercise physiology and applied biomechanics in athletic, healthy and clinical populations.


John Temesi

John's research interests are largely in the areas of neuromechanics, exercise physiology and applied biomechanics across the spectrum from clinical populations to athletes. Some specific interests are the effects of exercise in clinical populations as it relates to fatigue, quality of life and disease mechanisms. He also has an interest in using (ultra-)endurance exercise as a model to study changes in the human body, with a particular focus on the neuromuscular system.
