Professor Nicola Wake

Professor Nicola Wake is Deputy Director for the Northumbria Centre for Evidence and Criminal Justice Studies and Subject Sections Secretary for the Society of Legal Scholars. Nicola has published widely on mental condition defences, holds several editorial positions, and has secured funding from prestigious providers.  Nicola is a research mentor to academic colleagues, and supervises a number of PhD students.

Nicola joined the law school in 2012, having previously worked at the University of Sunderland. Nicola teaches across a number of modules, and is experienced in associate head departmental leadership, programme leadership, programme (re)validation processes, and external examining.

Professor Wake's research interests include: criminal law and justice specifically mental condition defences, human trafficking, and vulnerable offenders.
