CNO002 Discovering a Nursing Career in General Practice - Non-Accredited

This module is for those who are considering a future career in Primary Care/General Practice Nursing.
The module is aimed at supporting those either in pre-employment in any field of nursing i.e., Pre-registration nurses in Year 2 or 3, or those who are already qualified and wishing to move to Primary Care/General Practice Nursing. During this module you will have the opportunity to develop a better understanding of working in Primary Care/General Practice. Because you will be able to provide evidence of understanding the role, you will have an increased ability to successfully attain a career or embed yourself in general practice.
The module will provide knowledge to address the challenges in transitioning to a career in primary care and support you whilst you develop an overview of Primary Care provision. This module aims to develop practitioners to provide an insight into nursing roles and collaborative working within contemporary nursing roles in general practice. You will be able to demonstrate the knowledge required to assess, and respond appropriately to health need, knowledge and understanding of working independently, and within legal, ethical, and professional guidelines.
You can apply for this level of CNO002 if you are one of the following:
- Current student nurse
- Registered nurse in adult, children's, mental health or learning disability fields
- Trainee or Registered nursing associate

Award Type For non-accredited study you will receive section certificates of completion and a module completion certificate only.
Delivery Method This online module will offer an interactive eLearning package supported by distance learning activities. A stable internet connection will be required in order to access all of the elearning package activities and content.

The online course will be divided into sections but will cover the following vital aspects of care provision in general practice by nursing roles:
- Introduction to the general practice organisation and how this collaborates with wider health care systems in England.
- Working within the general practice environment, including multidisciplinary teams across local organisations.
- Communication skills in general practice-computer systems, different types of consultation methods utilised.
- Ensuring equality, diversity and inclusivity when promoting population health, preventative and restorative health to diverse populations.
- Developing your career in a general practice nursing environment.
The course relies on no live teaching and is entirely online, furthermore the learning materials are available 24/7. This means you can study anytime, anywhere as long as you have access to a laptop with a stable internet connection.
Student nurses in year 2 or 3 of training, nurse associates, trainee nurse associates and registered nurses. If studying for level 6, previous study at level 5, if studying at level 7, previous study at level 6 is required.
- Critically appraise the primary care/general practice nursing role, key skills, and environment, and gaining knowledge and understanding of how this is embedded into wider provision across an integrated care system.
- Examine the evidence for the factors which contribute to the health and wellbeing of patients from a physical and psychosocial perspective.
- Critically analyse and discuss the importance of whole population health management and working with diverse populations.
- Critically review the ethical and legalities of working as an autonomous practitioner providing care/treatment received by patients utilising contemporary sources of evidence.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of multiple communication mediums in order to reach whole and diverse populations.
