Northumbria University welcomes applicants from USA with a range of qualifications across our pathway, undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses.
Please note that the following are general entry guidelines for students from USA. Actual requirements may vary depending on your chosen course of study, and some courses may have specific or additional entry criteria; full details are available in our course directory. Decisions for entry will also be based on personal statements and previous study information, not just your final course grading.

General entry criteria for qualifications from the United States of America is given below but Northumbria will consider other qualifications for entry onto its courses:

We continue to adopt a test-flexible and inclusive approach to all applications. You should aim to submit test scores where possible, but Northumbria University will consider applicants who have been unable to take, or have access to, standardised tests. Applicants without test scores will be considered for first year entry with a minimum overall High School Diploma CGPA of 3.2/4.0. Applicants with test scores will be considered for first year entry with a High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 plus one of the following: SAT I – Overall score of 1240 including minimum scores in each component: Reading and Writing 630+ and Math 610+ OR A minimum ACT score of 26 OR Advanced Placement Tests – Grade 3 or above in at least two tests (preferably three tests) Some courses may require you to have a particular background in the subject you are applying to study. This is known as ‘pre-requisite’ knowledge. If required, you must sufficiently evidence this knowledge via honors or college level classes, all applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
