Leading Innovation

‘Leading Innovation supports strategic business growth by combining the expertise of Northumbria’s internationally renowned School of Design with the UK Business School of the year to both embed capabilities and articulate new value for your organisation’.
This accredited course will be tailored to meet strategic business needs of organisations.
The overall aim of the course is to maximise the potential of participants to develop their ability to champion unique innovation methods and relevant value propositions, enabling their organisation to harness its physical and intellectual resources in new and valuable ways, making the business more efficient and within an increasingly competitive and changing economy.
The course will introduce unique new innovation tools and methodologies through which participants will develop “stress tested” value propositions that will be applied into the organisation as a driver for business growth, and in addition, releasing the potential of the expertise that resides in the organisation and its individuals.
Ideal participants include senior managers, leaders of business units, business owners, members of executive teams, and functional heads including chief technology officers and chief innovation officers.
The course follows the below structure:
- Initial meetings to identify innovation outcomes that are relevant to your organisation. Establishment of teams of participants.
- Two-day workshop at Northumbria University.
- Data gathering for eight weeks. Submission of learning plans for each participant.
- Two-day workshop at Northumbria University.
- Development of proposals, and further gathering of data, for eight to twelve weeks.
- One-day presentations that frame the innovation potential and outline value propositions.
- Evaluation of proposals, and testing and analysis of data, for eight to twelve weeks.
- Submission of presentation material and individual learning logs.
- One-day presentations and final assessment.
It is possible that framing of innovation potential could lead on to further collaborative research and development with Northumbria University.

3 years+ work experience. Good knowledge of their organisation and mastery of their role within it. (Ideally a good undergraduate degree)
The programme has two major benefits:
1. Participants learn tools and methods to interpret complex and interrelated factors relevant to their business and to frame that complexity to enable value innovation.
2. By applying these methods within the business or organisation delegate teams construct innovative value propositions and roadmap their route to market.
The Programme objectives are:

- Participants develop their ability to lead effective creative and innovative processes and ensure that their organisations sustain competitive advantage through the application of design thinking to business
