Our Alumni - Work For Us
Responsible AI for Senior Public Sector Leaders
This workshop is designed to enable public sector leaders to ‘get underneath the bonnet’ of AI and understand the potential benefits and risks for their organisation.
This half day workshop for senior public sector leaders will enhance knowledge of the technical and operational aspects of AI, enabling leaders to ‘get underneath the bonnet’ and read between the lines of the marketing speak. The workshop will explore when and how AI could boost an organisation's mission, and when and why AI might present a risk. We embed this exploration in the core principles of senior leadership in the public sector (covering issues such as accountability for decision making when using AI, openness and transparency in how AI is being used and why, and ensuring objectivity when relying on AI processes). Based on our research, policy and education expertise, we will cover examples of the essential skills and understanding that AI users need, and explain models of assurance and independent scrutiny that can support senior leadership decisions around the deployment of AI.
The workshop agenda will include:
- Getting under the bonnet of AI – machines and maths, not magic
- AI and Public Life – understanding the impact of the use of AI on the Seven Principles of Public Life (the Nolan Principles)
- AI: clever or clueless – how to tell the difference?
- Skills and understanding that AI users need – lessons from the legal domain
- Models of AI assurance for senior leaders – lessons from the checklist for responsible AI in policing and the West Midlands Police data ethics committee
- Discussion of a fictional but realistic case-study, enabling delegates to explore the issues arising with the speakers and fellow delegates
