Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

Close to home so I can still see family whenever I want to, university has a great reputation for my course and Newcastle has a good night life.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

It's a really nice place to live and I enjoy spending time at the Quayside jogging or shopping in Eldon Square.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

How quickly a place can feel like home, Newcastle is a bigger city than Carlisle so I thought it would feel daunting but everyone is really friendly and it's really easy to get around.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes definitely! I lived in halls In first year which was great for meeting people and joined a sports club which is also a good way to meet people and get fit.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

The independence of living away from home and getting to use all the state of the art science equipment.

What is your favourite place on campus?

The rock climbing wall at the gym, I love improving my climbing skills there and you always bump into someone you know.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?

Yes, I've played for the Water Polo and Jiu Jitzu teams where I have met some great people. The highlights are definitely matches and sports nights out.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I am not sure yet but hopefully something within science, hopefully in a research setting.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Really put yourself out there and make friends in Freshers week. Don't ever say no to an opportunity that could help you in the future.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I am definitely more independent because I can't rely on parents to do everything for me and I think I've become more dedicated and motivated to what I want to do in life.

Life changing and fun
