Laura Zvirgzdina

MA International Relations, Conflict and Security

Biography

Picture of woman

Laura was born in Latvia and came to Northumbria University to study her MA in International Relations, Conflict and Security.

Laura set out to study BA International Business in the hopes to become a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur.

However, after landing a great internship, Laura soon realised she wanted to go down a different route after gaining real-world experience.

Laura was even given the opportunity to operate her own cosmetics company but was not successful, as she knew she was supposed to be doing something else.

After making the decision to Change Direction, Laura went on to study MA International Relations, Conflict and Security and hasn't looked back.

What advice would you give somebody who is thinking of studying an entirely new subject for postgraduate study?

Go for it! It is good to have wider career paths open. Often you do not get it right at the beginning. At first, I studied engineering, then switched to business, then politics. I cannot imagine myself being an engineer.

How is your current course helping to prepare you for employment?

It offers wider employment possibilities, outside of private sector.
