Preparing to Join Us

At Northumbria University, support recommendations are outlined in a Student Accessibility Plan or SAP. This plan may include details of your condition, important information for your department, recommended on-course adjustments and modified exam arrangements including additional time.

To get this support, you must first complete a registration form. The Accessibility Team will review your form and then contact you to invite you to book an appointment with an Accessibility Adviser. At this appointment, you will agree your Student Accessibility Plan.

For students who hold an offer to study at Northumbria, you can find our Registration Form below:

If you are a current Northumbria University student, you must go through the Student Portal to our Current Student Registration Page here

A Student Accessibility Plan or SAP is what Northumbria calls our support plans for students with a long-term health condition, disability, neurodivergence or Specific Learning Difference.

This plan may include reasonable teaching adjustments, adjusted exam arrangements and additional support.

All students who require any adjustments due to a condition, disability or specific learning difference need to agree a SAP with an Accessibility Adviser. The first step to this is making yourself known to the team by completing the Accessibility Support Form above.

All Student Accessibility Plans are unique depending on the student, their condition and their course. We will not be able to give you specific information about what your SAP may include until you have completed the form above and it has been reviewed by an Accessibility Adviser.

We encourage all students begin by completing the above form, so that we can start the process of getting your support in place.

Exam arrangements are agreed as part of a Student Accessibility Plan. To get any arrangements agreed you must agree a plan with an Adviser. The first step to this is completing the Accessibility Support Form above.

We have a short supporting documents guide here.

However, we encourage all students to register with us using any documents they have access to which outlines a condition. If we require further information, we will contact you.

You will need to complete our Accessibility Support Form above, uploading any documents you have.

If you currently have support based on a full psychological assessment, please upload your report, and we will be able to invite you for an appointment to agree your Student Accessibility Plan (SAP).

If you have a Form 8, or did not receive any documents from your school about your extra time, we will be able to offer you a screener self-assessment. Please either complete the form above to start this process and we will send you a link to the screener, or contact us via our enquiry form to find out more.

We will use your EHCP to consider what support you may benefit from during your time at Northumbria. Upload this, or any other relevant documents you have, when you complete our Accessibility Support Form and we will invite you in for an appointment to discuss your support and agree a new Student Accessibility Plan (SAP).

Each SAP is unique based on student and course, so may not be able to reflect all the adjustments of your EHCP, but we are happy to discuss all support available at your appointment.

We are happy to put support in place for all students who hold an offer for Northumbria University. We would recommend applying for support around 3 months before starting your course to ensure your outlined support is up to date when you start.

If you apply before this, we may wait until nearer your start date to invite you to an appointment.
