Career Path: International Sales Manager, Dubai, UAE
Location: London, UK

Former: Prime Central London Residential Property Advisor, Savills.

After graduating with a first class BA (Hons) in International Business Management, I joined a UK property development company as an International Sales Executive. The role was based in Singapore, so after a week of training in London, I relocated to Asia and essentially started my professional career in property.

Although passionate about property from a young age and exposed to the industry early on, it was in this role that I started accumulating vast experience in the industry. After five months I was promoted to Regional Director in the company and was in charge of sales, marketing and business development for the company in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar. Quickly learning and progressing within the company, my entrepreneurial spirit made me realise that I need to pursue my own path in property and create my own company. After a few months of planning, I left the corporate world and I established Chartbury - a boutique property investment company specialising in providing global clients with UK & International real estate investments.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

The great city energy and the fact that Northumbria was a university investing heavily in their facilities and level quality. The awards received by Newcastle Business School are great testimonial to the fact that the university is committed to high quality education and becoming one of the country's leading educational institutions.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

Studying at Northumbria was an enriching and diverse experience because the course offered a great mix of lectures, seminars, team projects and work placements which allowed me to develop and grow. For me, the best part was studying abroad for a year and a half out of the four years, which was something offered on the International Business Management course.

How connected was your course with industry?

The course was extremely connected with UK and international institutions, which allowed us to both study and work around the world. I feel this element added so much value for the students in such a global context and the International Exchange Team did a fantastic job in building these key relationships, whilst also supporting the student during their placement.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

The course helped me develop an understanding of the international business environment, a crucial factor to consider in today's globalised world. This knowledge is something I've been able to apply directly to all work I've done since graduating from Northumbria.

What was the best thing about your course?

The opportunity to study and work abroad one year and a half out of the total 4 years of university!

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Learning about strategic management in my final year proved useful in developing the business model Chartbury.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Besides the study abroad course, I like that lecturers and staff at the University were super friendly, welcoming and supportive - which made the whole experience very enriching from all aspects.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

Go for it! It's an innovative, forward-thinking University in such a great city! I would also recommend that they get involved in all things outside of the course, such a sports team, societies and events. Networking is such a crucial part of life and you will meet people at Northumbria that can connect the dots for you later on in life!

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Life changing experience!
