Information for Landlords and Estate Agents

The University is aware that new Right to Rent landlord checks, required under the Immigration Act 2014, are being piloted in the West Midlands at present. We have been advised by the Landlord’s Helpline (0300 069 9799) that landlords outside of the West Midlands area are not required to conduct the new checks at this time.

They have also advised that, should landlords wish to undertake these checks in advance of the formal requirement being introduced, the key documents which should be checked are the student’s visa document and Biometric Residence Permit card, which can only be authenticated by the appropriate authorities. Neither of these documents can be authenticated by the University and we are therefore unable to process any requests of this nature.

Further information on how to carry out the appropriate checks can be found on the Government website here.
