Build your career on your passion for sport

8th September 2017

Sport is one of the UK's fastest growing industries, supporting over 450,000 jobs and generating over £20bn for the economy.

Apply NowHosting world-class events such as London 2012, the Grand Depart of the Tour de France and the Rugby World Cup is driving growth in the sector which now ranks among the top 15 UK industries.

Northumbria University’s MSc International Sport Management was developed to prepare students for a range of careers within the sector.

“Our MSc is designed for those who want to turn their love of sport into a career,” said programme leader Gordon Macfadyen.

“The course combines the key management disciplines of strategy, finance, marketing, human resource management, research and event management and applies them in an international sporting context.”

“There is an increasing range of job opportunities in world sport and this course gives graduates a head start in the industry.”

Open to graduates from any academic discipline, the course has a strong international focus and includes a field trip to Luasanne in Switzerland, home of the International Olympic Committee, International Sport Federations and other key organisations in international sport.

MSc International Sport Management graduate Hannah Marshall said: “One of the main aspects of the course here at Northumbria is that it gears you up for work – it’s a very vocational course.

“I met members of the International Sports Federation during the week-long field trip to Lausanne, which taught me a huge amount about working in the sports industry. The first job I was offered on graduating was a sports development role in Malaysia which is my dream job.

“I have loved studying International Sport Management because it has given me an opportunity to get a deeper understanding of a business that I want to work in and it’s been really inspiring being taught by people who are actually in the industry”.

Northumbria is a UK top 5 University for Sport (Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2016) and ranked in the UK top 30 for excellence in sport and exercise science research power.

MSc International Sport Management starts this month, full or part time and in January 2018 full time.
