Northumbria graduates recognised for talent and professionalism

Two recent Northumbria University graduates have been awarded Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) Centre of Excellence Student of the Year Awards for their outstanding academic achievements.

Travel and Tourism graduates Darcy Worcester, from Northumbria’s Newcastle Business School ,who graduated in 2021, and Tom Spencer who graduated in 2020, received their awards at the ITT Summer Party, which was held in July at the House of Commons. The ITT University Centre of Excellence Student of the Year awards are given to high achieving students who have demonstrated excellent academic development, great passion for the industry, and supplemented their degree with an industry placement. The awards also recognise up-and-coming talent in the travel and tourism industry.

Darcy Worcester graduated in 2021 with a 1st in Tourism and Events Management, and is currently a Project Manager with events agency Simply Better. Tom Spencer graduated in 2020 with a 1st in Business with Tourism Management, and is now an Aviation and Marketing Analyst at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Dr Kate Harland, from Newcastle Business School; said: “It was a pleasure to see the 2020 and 2021 ITT Future You awards finally hosted after a two-year break due to Covid. Tom and Darcy were both very deserved winners of the ITT Centre of Excellence Student of the Year award. Their hard work, dedication and passion for the industry was finally recognised with this award, and I am delighted to see them both thriving in their careers since graduating. Both Tom and Darcy should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

Northumbria University is accredited by the Institute of Travel and Tourism as a Centre of Excellence. Students can benefit from student membership, ambassador opportunities and attend the annual ITT Future You Roadshow, connecting them to industry.
