Dr Mike Cole

Assistant Professor

Department: Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing

Mike joined Northumbria University in 2012.

Prior to this he taught science in secondary schools across the UK, gaining a number of leadership and management responsibilities, whilst also completing a Master’s in Education.

Mike then went on to work at Durham University as a Deputy Director within the national network of Science Learning Centres, which involved leading a team of professionals to provide high quality subject specific CPD for primary, secondary and post-16 teachers across the region.

Mike is a senior lecturer in science education, the programme leader for the PGDE Leadership in Learning - Teach First, and also programme leader for the MA Education Leadership in Learning (Teach First). His research interests sit within the areas of science education, and models of teachers’ professional development.
