Dr Justine Gallagher

Dr Justine Gallagher is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing.

Her doctoral research explored women’s stories of infant feeding practice in an area of the North East of England with low rates of breastfeeding using a biographical narrative approach.

Alongside her research, Justine currently teaches on the BA (Hons) Childhood and Early Years programme, having previously taught on a range of other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She has a keen interest in employability and supports students with fieldwork and placement opportunities.

Prior to joining Northumbria University, Justine worked in Sure Start Children’s Centres. She has a wealth of experience of working with parents and families as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Research Themes and Scholarly Interests

Research interests include infant feeding, parenting and narrative methodologies. She has a developing interest in Student Parents, Employability and Genealogy.
