Teams: Your Virtual Classroom

What is Microsoft Teams?

Teaching sessions, such as lectures and workshops, will be an essential part of your studies. These take place in a physical classroom on campus, or occasionally in a ‘virtual classroom’ online. Microsoft Teams is your virtual classroom where you will take part in live, online teaching sessions.

Teams makes it easy for you to attend online teaching from any location, using any device. It’s your virtual classroom that enables you to take part in your lectures, seminars, and workshops from within Blackboard.

When will I use Teams?

You may use Teams through your studies here at Northumbria University, although the majority of your lectures and classes will be face to face.

As well as online lectures, your course may also use Teams to offer:

  • Virtual drop-in sessions, where you can ask for help and advice from your tutors.
  • Online group work, where you and other students can work on group projects.
  • One to one interviews or assessments.

How do I access and use Teams?

You may join Teams directly from within Blackboard, Northumbria University’s virtual learning environment from a direct link, announcement or activity stream. This makes it easy to use and access. There is no need to install any extra software on your device. Or you will be send a link via university email Microsoft Outlook to join.

Teams is designed to be easy to use and it is a system that Northumbria students become familiar with very quickly.
