Under our 2024/25 entry recruitment we will have 1 ring-fenced award for UK-domiciled applicants who identify as being from a minoritised ethnic group. These are for 3.5 years and include full UK fees and a living allowance of £19,237 (based on the current UKRI rates for the academic year 2024 to 2025).
Applications for October 2024 entry is now closed.
ONE Planet offers a cohort-based doctoral training partnership at Northumbria and Newcastle Universities. The Natural and Environmental Research Council (NERC) funds the partnership.
Ensuring that students are trained in key skills and the requisite knowledge base means that ONE Planet partners span industry, regulatory authorities to government with dedicated placements aligned with the Government's Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund - aiming to bring together the UK's world-leading research with business - clean growth and the knowledge economy. A list of the 50 projects available can be found here.
The ONE Planet DTP values individual differences and the diversity that this brings. We ensure that no-one is at a disadvantage because of who they are. We encourage applications from under-represented groups, and requests for flexible study (e.g. part-time) are welcomed.
The closing date for applications is 11th January 2024.
Please visit our how to apply pages for further details on how you apply to either partner institution.
You must have or expect to gain a First Class or high 2:1 Honours degree or international equivalent in a relevant subject or subject relevant to the proposed PhD project. Enthusiasm for research, the ability to think and work independently, excellent analytical skills and strong verbal and written communication skills are also essential requirements.
International applicants (inc. EU) are welcome to apply. Following the UKRI announcement to introduce a new 30% UKRI international recruitment policy both Newcastle University and Northumbria University have agreed to pay the international fee difference for all International applicants who are awarded a DTP studentship.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us at oneplanet@ncl.ac.uk
