Research Project:

Information System Alignment and its impact on technology transfer: The case of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research

Research Abstract

This research involved a multi-exploratory case study of a scientific research and development (SR&D) organization in Kuwait, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR).  The study was aimed primarily to formulate a roadmap that can be applied to the Institute and other SR&D organizations for the successful alignment of Information System (IS) with organizational strategy. Specific objectives were to identify and categorise key determinants and enablers of success for IS alignment, and present recommendations on how effective and sustainable IS alignment can be achieved.  Thirty-seven respondents from the research management, IS management, and planning and supporting groups of KISR, namely, the scientific research senior managers, IS senior managers, and consultants, respectively, were interviewed concerning issues related to the  organizational, strategic, and IS domains.

In the analysis of the external and internal contexts, briefly, Kuwait’s IT plan was discussed, along with the challenges, and in detail, description and analysis of KISR’s strategic plans, as well as discussion of the Institute’s four scientific centres and its lone division of research was presented.
