Clare Baumfield

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Marketing

Why did you choose Northumbria School of Design, and what did you know about us before you applied?

I chose the school because fashion marketing offers a wide range of disciplines and also doing a year in industry really appealed to me

What do you most like about Newcastle, and how do you find the city?

You can walk everywhere! I already knew the city well and I think it’s a good place to study

How do you find the cost of living in Newcastle?

Very reasonable - it’s a big student city so there are lots of cheap nights out and plenty of choice for accommodation

Did you find the Design School welcoming?

Yes, you get to know your tutors and everyone really well by the time you get to final year.

How do you find your tutors and the staff within the School?

Very friendly and approachable. All of our tutors have worked in industry and are very knowledgeable

What do you like most about the School of Design?

Nice atmosphere, lots of light.

Tell me a bit about your course?

Fashion marketing trains you in many areas such as illustration to trend predicting. It allows you to specialise in any area of fashion design from menswear to millenary. Also has a bit of business thrown in for the practicalities of having your own business in industry.

If you had to pick an object to represent your course, what would it be and why?

The object I probably use the most at the moment is a tape measure.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Challenging, Interesting, Productive

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Try and experiment with each project so that in final year you feel decided in your pathway.

What are your plans now and for the future?

Hopefully get a job! I would like to go into menswear design or concept for design.
