Where are you from?

Taiwan

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I chose Northumbria University, Newcastle because the design department has a very good reputation. Also, the University is recruited with skillfull and friendly staff.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is populated with friendly people, and one gets to see more of a diverse culture due to the International environment. There are many favourites for me, however, to pick one out of the things I love to do in Newcastle will be to hang around town with my friends.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

Living in Newcastle surprised me with its diverse cultures. Its friendliness had definitely made an impact on the living. The Northumbria University has impressed me the most with its facilities and campuses.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Northumbria University is very welcoming with its Open Days and tasting days. It is particularly easy to fit in with the Freshers Week Northumbria provides.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

I have enjoyed the culture, the people and of course the classes in Northumbria University. The campus makes a great welcoming feeling. Also, the access of library and some departments is very convenient for students.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

Coming with a friend from back home has helped me a lot. However, the staffs and ASK4HELP have helped me a great load as well. Above all, the experiences one gain will be the most helpful tool.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

The graduates and last year students have inspired me the most due to the presentation of their works. It is impressive to see what they have done, and how they have come about to complete their tasks.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My favourite places on campus will be the library and the fitness. The 24/7 access of the library gives the students a great opportunity and place to finish off their work; especially with all the equipted printers and scanners. The fitness allows me to release my stress, thus, I have picked it as one of my favourites as well.

What is the best thing about your course?

The best thing about Fashion Marketing BA is the experienced staff, in which they pass on the knowledge to the students. The freedom the students get within a project is precious. We get to have our own designs and thoughts in our own developments.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

The most valuable lessons I have learnt will be the independence of oneself and the access of the equipments in the design building and library. Most of all, communications and design thinking have been part of the valuable developments of myself.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I wish I can become a promoter or marketer in my future. The skills of making a shirt and the design process allow me to obtain more knowledge than just the marketing part. Thus, this ensures that I may obtain a little more skill and knowledge than the competitions at work in the future.

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.

Field trips were held in the beginning of the course, which allows the students to gather and meet new friends. They were helpful in many ways. Not only the actual museums taught us things, but the experience in going on a trip within the course has taught us valuable lessons too.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

I would advice the students to have a look at the course modules carefully, and also to talk to one of the staffs or students in the course. Above all, to come to the Open Days.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I have built up my independence and confidence. This may be because of the challenges I have overcome within the course and the living matters.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Challenging, friendly, skillfull!

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes!
