There is the opportunity for postgraduate and undergraduate students to apply for financial support to attend the meeting. If you would like to be considered for this support, please e-mail the conference organisers at ee.bsg2020@northumbria.ac.uk, with an outline of the following, ideally in no more than 250 words:
Please note, we are unlikely to support costs for subsistence.
The deadline for requesting support is 31st July.
Applications will be reviewed by the local organising committee. Decisions, along with instructions on how to claim any awarded sum and evidence expenditure, will be communicated in early August. If you require a decision in advance, e.g. for supporting a travel visa application, please make this known in your e-mail.
An exciting pre-conference fieldtrip is offered on Sunday 4th September. Participants will head to a series of remote Northumberland sites of geomorphological interest, with a primary focus on sites that are part of active or planned river restoration projects, and/or where river channels and their floodplains have been subject to recent extreme geomorphological perturbations linked to historical intervention. The trip will be led by professional geomorphologists from our local Environment Agency team. The cost of attendance includes subsidised coach transport to and from the sites, and lunch. Once we have numbers, we will be in touch closer to the time with further information. The trip is envisaged to last all day, with the coach departing from Northumbria’s City Campus at around 9:30am. Unless based in the area, participants will need to arrange local accommodation for the night before. Feel free to e-mail the conference organisers if you would like more information.
Following the pre-conference fieldtrip on Sunday 4th, the BSG’s Professional Geomorphology Sub-Committee will host a workshop that is tailored to practising geomorphologists (i.e. those based primarily outside of academia) on the morning of Monday 5th September. If you would like to attend, please indicate this preference at the point of registration. There is no additional charge. Mid-morning refreshments will be provided. If you would like to attend, please do consider your accommodation requirements – specialised accommodation requests can be made using the contact details on the ‘Accommodation’ sub-page.
An Early Career Workshop with a provisional focus on grant-writing advice will also run on the morning of Monday 5th September. If you will attend, please e-mail the conference organisers (ee.bsg2022@northumbria.ac.uk). No additional fee applies.”
