Offence to Sentence: Sexual Violence and the Voice of the Victim
Offence to Sentence: Sexual Violence and the Voice of the Victim

The conference will focus on the sexual violence victim and their journey from offence to sentence. With the recent Police Operation Soteria Bluestone considering why rape victims withdraw their support for their case progressing, CPS 2024 statistics on rape myths, and Law Commission 2023 Consultation paper considering special measures among other things, this will be an opportunity for academics, police and stakeholders to come together and discuss problems with the system.
Call for Papers
Papers are welcome on any topic related to the conference theme. Paper presentations will be 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes at the end for questions. Submissions are invited from anyone with an interest in this area, including academia, police and support services. There is an additional open call slot dedicated to showcasing postgraduate and undergraduate research. If you are submitting an abstract as a PGR or undergraduate please note this when you send your abstract.
We are able to pay a limited amount of travel and accommodation costs. Please include an estimation if you would need to arrange this.
If you are interested in presenting a paper, please send an abstract (250 words maximum) by email to offencetosentence@hotmail.com. The deadline for sending an abstract is Friday 12th July 2024. Acceptance of papers will be on a rolling basis with final acceptance no later than Friday 19th July 2024.
Poster Competition
To allow maximum participation, all attendees and any PGR student (regardless of whether or not they are able to attend the seminar in person) will be invited to display a poster on the subjects related to the conference. These will be on display throughout the conference, with a poster competition being held during the lunch hour judged by invited speakers. Please send all poster submissions by email to offencetosentence@hotmail.com noting your institution/organisation and contact details. The deadline for submitting a poster is Monday 19th August 2024 (in order to give us time to print).
