Northumbria courses take leading position in latest university league tables
Students at Northumbria University, Newcastle, are more satisfied and their career prospects are stronger than ever before, according to the latest Complete University Guide 2017.
As well as scoring highly for ‘Student Satisfaction’ which increased by 36 places from last year - the University saw a significant climb up the national league table by nine places for ‘Graduate Prospects’. Sixteen key subjects offered by the University have also been rated as being within the top 30 in the UK, with two subjects ranked in the top 10.
Both the University’s Land and Property Management course and its Librarianship and Information Management subject were rated as the seventh best in the UK in the latest edition of this national league table, which was published this week.
Within the Guide’s top 20, the University’s Physiotherapy course has been ranked 11th and its Architecture, Art and Design and Building courses are all ranked 16th. General Engineering is ranked 18th with Food Science rated 19th, and Nursing courses in 20th position.
This year the Complete University Guide also ranked a number of subject areas which it had not previously included. The University’s Forensic Science course is now rated as the 14th best in the UK, with Occupational Therapy ranked 18th and Creative Writing rated 20th.
Also appearing in the top 30 are the University’s Town and Country Planning and Landscape Design courses which are ranked 23rd, while Education courses are rated 24th . Northumbria’s Civil Engineering course is ranked 26th, while Communication and Media Studies courses are in 28th position.
This is the latest in a series of accolades and achievements at the University in the past year. In the International Student Barometer survey, conducted in summer 2015, which records overseas student satisfaction, Northumbria rose 26 places to 3rd place. The University has also been ranked in the top 20 in the UK for providing an outstanding student experience and the University’s Newcastle Business School is the Times Higher Education magazine’s UK Business School of the Year.
The Complete University Guide bases its ratings by measuring official data relating to student satisfaction; entry standards; student: staff ratio; spending on academic services; spending on student facilities; research; good honours degrees achieved; graduate prospects and completion.
