Our Alumni - Work For Us
Northumbria University has been working with Stagecoach to improve the frequency of bus services between the City and Coach Lane Campuses.
To improve the service Stagecoach’s number 1 bus now starts and finishes at the Coach Lane Campus turning circle every ten minutes, seven days a week and is free of charge to Northumbria students and staff that board at the University’s designated stops and produce their smartcard. Students and staff can use this service between 7am and 10.15pm every day.
Northumbria’s 5 designated stops are at the Civic Centre, the corner of Sandyford Road and Portland Terrace, the junction of Portland Road and Warwick Street, the Warwick Street/Stadium stop and the corner of Simonside Terrace and Chillingham Road stop. Click here to view a map of the stops. The bus will drop passengers off outside the campus buildings on the main Coach Lane road. Please note that passengers travelling to City Campus can only board at Coach Lane Campus.
Students and staff are asked to familiarise themselves with the timetable and allow sufficient time for their journey between the campuses. Travel time between both campuses is approximately 25 minutes. Please visit the Stagecoach website to download an up to date timetable.

By working with Stagecoach we can offer students and staff a much more frequent service between our campuses which has much improved capacity.
The number 1 bus is the most direct bus route to Coach Lane. The Four Lane Ends metro and bus interchange is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the campus and Coach Lane is well served by local cycle routes. You can also use the Moovit - Newcastle website to look at alternative travel options available to travel to Coach Lane from your starting destination.
Pay and display parking is available at Coach Lane Campus East. Students can also apply for an annual permit to park at Coach Lane.
Please contact Student Support and Wellbeing to discuss any specific requirements you may have, or contact Campus Services if you have any concerns (John Anderson, Security, Mail and Transport Manager on 0191 227 4670).
