Penelope Banou

Penelope Banou holds a PhD from the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art of the University of West Attica (Athens, Greece), she holds a BA degree from the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, TEI of Athens, Greece (1996) and a MA degree with distinction from the Northumbria University in UK (1998) in Arts in Conservation of Fine Art, specialized in paper conservation.

From 1998 until 2022 she worked as a paper conservator for archival material, books and works of art on paper collaborating with museums, private and public collections. Her professional activities include participation in preservation and conservation projects, while she has been involved in education and research programs with several publications for the last 20 years. Her interest has mainly focused on the effect of oil binders on the paper support of books, archival material and works of art, but she has also engaged in the research on the evaluation of the condition of copy book and copy letters and the documentation and treatment of special categories of archival material on parchment.
