Dr Mark Gatto

Assistant Professor

Department: Newcastle Business School

I am an Assistant Professor in Critical Organisation Studies whose main research interest is the gender inequity experienced by working parents (in paid employment). I explore the role of patriarchy as a discourse in organisational contexts. I am also interested in critical perspectives on masculinities from hegemonic to hybrid and caring masculinities and how this impacts the construction of the 'dad' identity.  I have published using a transdisciplinary, critical approach incorporating gender and dystopian fiction in organisations. I also use fiction and autoethnography to write differently. Finally, I established and proudly lead the Northumbria University Parents and Carers Network in 2020.

I am open to PhD proposals on the themes of masculinities, parents at work and the use of fiction in management and organisation studies.
