Dr Roben Gieling

Assistant Professor

Department: Applied Sciences

Roben Gieling Academic Staff, Faculty of Life and Health Sciences, Northumbria University  Roben began his scientific career in Biomedical Science with the University of Utrecht (Master’s programme in Medical Biology), which included two placements in the University Medical Centre Utrecht, and graduated in 1997.

His time as scientific staff with the RWTH Aachen University (Neurology Department 1997-98) was followed by a postgraduate study at the University of Amsterdam (Department of Anatomy and Embryology) on “Changes in Blood Flow that Affect Hepatic Gene Expression”, where he received a PhD in Medicine in 2005.

Roben undertook postdoctoral research in world leading research groups at USC Los Angeles (Prof Han), Newcastle University (Prof Mann) and the University of Manchester (Prof Williams) contributing to 19 highly regarded papers, in Oncology, Imaging and Hepatology fields. In his role as guest lecturer and tutor he contributed to the Pharmacy and Medicine undergraduate education in the University of Manchester. There he supervised  3 PhD students

He joined the Department of Applied Sciences in July 2018 as Senior Lecturer in Histopathology where he will contribute to the Biomedical Science programmes, and use his expertise to establish his own research group.
