Our Alumni - Work For Us
Dr Amy Johnson is a professional researcher with experience completing mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) research projects. She completed her PhD in Social Work in 2020. Underpinned by a Critical Realist perspective (informed by complexity theory), this PhD developed a framework for the construction and evaluation of a web-based intervention for carers of individuals with schizophrenia and a psychosis disorder.
Following this, Dr Johnson has worked as Senior Research Assistant on research projects focusing on improving hydration levels and the Quality of Life (QoL) of care home residents with dementia. She has also assisted in developing research projects within Children and Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT), in particular EMHPs and a parent/carer support group. Following this, she was part of a team of researchers based at Northumbria University, Newcastle University, and Teesside University evaluating the Little Orange Book (a regional resource to assist with the management of symptoms of childhood illness).
Dr Johnson started working within the Military Hub for Veteran and Families' Research in 2020. Her research projects have focused on evaluating at digital skills intervention for older war widows, and military widows' experiences of loneliness and social isolation. She is currently working on a project exploring levels of food insecurity in the ex-Armed Forces community.
Dr Johnson is a Senior Research Assistant at Northumbria University. Her interests include family carers, mental health, digital health, digital inclusion/exclusion, and bereaved military families.
