Dr Ann-Katrin Kraeuter

Assistant Professor

Department: Psychology

Dr Ann-Katrin Kraeuter is a PhD neuroscientist with active research in nutritional neuroscience, neurobiological mechanisms of stress and psychiatric disorders within the general population. Ann-Katrin joined Northumbria University in 2020. Before Northumbria, her research investigated the effects of ketogenic diet in animal models of schizophrenia (PhD (Dec 2019) “KD in mouse models of psychosis”, James Cook University, Townsville, Australia). Ann-Katrin post-doctorate research position investigated biomarkers for early stroke detection in stroke survivors  Ann-Katrin is interested in combining her expertise in survey-based evidence with biological evidence (PhD in Medical and Molecular Sciences (medal of excellence)) to provide a holistic understanding of the effects of ketogenic diet on prodromal psychosis.

Ann-Katrin has skills and experience in preclinical and general population research. Ann-Katrin is experienced in behavioural neuroscience animal modelling of complex human neuropsychiatric conditions. Other areas of interested and skills include gut microbiota, ketone and glucose monitoring, cortisol analysis, hematology, immunoassays, inflammatory processes. Ann-Katrin has supervised over 40+ undergraduate and master dissertation students at James Cook University and Northumbria University

To Date, Ann-Katrin has published 30+ research outputs with over 1500 citations (H-Index 14).  Ann-Katrin  completed a “Ketogenic Diets for Mental Health Clinician Training” training course. Ann-Katrin serves as Review Editor for Neuroenergetics, Nutrition and Brain Health (specialty section of Frontiers in Neuroscience and Frontiers in Nutrition. Ann-Katrin is part of NUTRAN an interdisciplinary research group conducting world-leading nutritional trials. Ann-Katrin is part of the Metabolic Mind community run by the Baszucki group, a network of world leaders in the field of KD interventions for mental health. Ann-Katrin is on the Board of advisors for online platform MetPsy – Recharge Your Brain.
