Dr Renli Ma

Assistant Professor

Department: Applied Sciences

Dr Renli Ma Staffprofile Northumbriauniversity255Dr Renli Ma is Senior Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemical and Forensic Sciences.  He started his higher education at Nankai University in China and obtained his PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He then worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield, where he also gained an MSc in Molecular and Genetic Medicine, before starting his current post in the School of Life Sciences.

His research is primarily concerning trace elements in biological and environmental systems, particularly in respect of trace element association with biomolecules. Inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is utilised for elemental/ isotopic determination in combination with chromatography/ electrophoresis for chemical speciation. His interests have more recently expanded to studies of organic pollutants and biomarkers in biomedical matrices by chromatography and/or mass spectrometry.
