Our Alumni - Work For Us
Matthew is a senior lecturer within the Department of Computer Information Sciences and currently delivers a range of modules in the area of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) on undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. The themes to these modules delivered are:
- Mobile and ubiquitous computing
- User Experience Design (UCD)
- User testing
- Information Retrieval (IR)
- Eye-tracking (desktop and mobile)
- Cognitive behaviours
Prior to this Matthew has been a programme leader for a number of degree programmes within in the areas of Information Science and Creative Media. Matthew has also worked as a consultant teaching and liaising within instructional designers developing online materials. This required implementing sound pedagogy with a focus on web standards and accessibility conformance supporting the University’s equality and inclusion polices. He has also worked as a web/multimedia developer designing flexible learning materials for distance learning programmes at Northumbria.
As the lead academic Matthew worked with the University Enterprise department and this work formed the basis of a UX laboratory. Using his professional knowledge and practice within HCI this lab supports enterprise and consultancy within the department and University. This lab has been used as a base to support regional industries evaluating and testing a range of digital products.
In 2017 Matthew completed his Professional Doctorate which has supported his research profile, engagement with industry and created new collaborative research opportunities within the HCI and IR field.
