Dr Colin Richardson

Assistant Professor

Dr Colin Richardson is an Assistant Professor in Business Information Systems and Data Analytics at Newcastle Business School within the Faculty of Business and Law. He achieved both his degree and Ph.D. from Northumbria University. He is also a Chartered IT Professional and Fellow member of the British Computer Society (BCS). In addition to this, He spent time studying Advanced Data Modelling at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) during time living and working in the USA.

Prior to joining Northumbria he held a number of senior level positions for both national and global organisations managing data teams. Most recently as a Head of Master Data for a National Water Utilities company implementing a national transformation programme, introducing new processes and technologies to support the organisation’s needs. In 2019 he won the International Award for Innovation from the Institute of Asset Management for work in data enrichment utilising Cognitive Services and Artificial Intelligence techniques.

He also worked as Head of Marketing Data for a major health care and life sciences company and managed a global team of professionals supporting the business needs worldwide as well as introducing novel approaches to a singular Taxonomy and Classifications model across a multi-disciplinary organisation. Before this, working in a self employed capacity supporting a number of organisations. This included development of financial management solutions and 1st line support for the NHS data management and business system needs. Before becoming self-employed, he worked for the NHS and was responsible for designing and developing the Child Health System for the NHS to support the needs of children from ages 0 - 21 years of age, encompassing everything from new birth notifications through to special needs support. In addition to this, he also held positions for local government and the emergency services in both management and software engineering roles.
